Dcypher the “Graffiti Artist”

Guy Armstrong Boston Ellis aka Dcypher struck the interested in art from a very young age and has been pursuing it ever since. Throughout his teenage years he became drawn into Hip Hop, skateboarding and the art of Graffiti, which was a natural progression for himself at this time. His father introduced him to “Subway art”, a graffiti art publication about New York City youth that would produce their artwork on subway trains in the early 1980’s.

He studied art all through school and once finished, He enrolled in the Christchurch Polytechnic School in New Zealand for Art and Design. Motivated by his dreams he completing a three-year Degree in Visual Communications.

Throughout the years, he started producing Graffiti art on city walls and canvases as a hobby on any free-time given. After leaving Polytechnic school made it capable to work as a full-time artist. He so began working as a glass screen printer for a year until his hard-work and dedication caught up to him and was hired by a company producing amusement park style rides. His job was producing illustrated concepts for future projects, painting murals & general prop making.

In 2004, Dcyhper was offered another job from the Christchurch city council to become the Artist/Tutor for a new project being piloted to reduce Graffiti vandalism in the Christchurch area. ” Project Legit” was founded and with a youth worker and project manager. On a mission to make a difference to the perception of how graffiti art was viewed by both the public and youth putting it in a more positive light. For the past four years, Dcypher began running courses about the history, ethics and practical application graffiti art to “At risk youth” producing large-scale murals in the public domain and individual works on canvases. This position enabled him to expand his own art as well as producing many logo designs, graphics for advertising purposes, stage set design, promotional brochures, title graphics for magazines and have appeared in a number of publications about graffiti art, as well as many group exhibitions with similar minded artists.
During late 2008 Dcyhper moved to Los Angeles California to further pursue his career. As a freelance artist, he painted many murals for various companies ranging from the CBS network for a mural on the set of Melrose place to many smaller community based organizations including teaching “Urban art” workshops in Compton and Long beach working directly with “at risk” youth opening there eyes to graphic design and illustration as possible future careers or just an appreciation for art in general. Dcypher continues to build an ongoing relationship with many other artist in differing genres of the art community and continue to produce paintings, illustrations and design for many galleries local businesses, homes and private and public wall murals. Anyone that is interested in seeing more of his phenomenal work or that wants to connect with him. I will post links below here.
