BSQ Magazine sat down with one of the shops artist Alan to learn more about the day to day life of a Professional Tattoo Artist.
BSQ: Why did you become a tattoo artist & how many years have you been doing it?
Alan: I became a tattoo artist because I have love for the art, I’ve been doing art my whole life. I’ve been tattooing for 3 years professionally and about 17 years with homemade tattoos.
BSQ: What do you like & least like about your work?
Alan: I like the fact hat it’s a never ending job you can tattoo all day! What I least like is that im never satisfied I always want to have growth.
BSQ: What is your favorite tattoo you’ve done so far?
Alan: Script tattoos.
BSQ: Do you have a favorite style of tattooing?
Alan: Black & Grey, also Photo styles.
BSQ: Who taught you how to tattoo?
Alan: Self taught, I started building my own machines and things like that.
BSQ: What were you doing before tattooing?
Alan: Painting cars……. fun job.
BSQ: How may people have you tattooed so far?
Alan: Ball park – over 5,000.
BSQ: What does a typical day in the life of a tattoo artist look like?
Alan: Wake up, get coffee, get to the shop and take care of walk-ins or appointments.
BSQ: What is the strangest tattoo you’ve ever done?
Alan: A girl asked to tattoo her breast with sea shells, she wanted to feel like a Mermaid.
BSQ: How many tattoos do you have?
Alan: About 600.
BSQ: Are there any parts of the body you will not tattoo & why?
Alan: The face, it’s really uncomfortable.
BSQ: Is there a specific tattoo you’ve done more than once?
Alan: Yeah crosses, LA design & flowers.
BSQ: Top 5 artist in your ipod?
Alan: Eminem, Tupac, Ice Cube, Drake & Lil Wayne.
BSQ: Any advice for the aspiring tattoo artist?
Alan: Yeah take your time don’t rush, don’t be in a hurry tattoos are forever!
