J’Lamar is on the rise to becoming one of the top fashion/accessory designers in the country, his Shy Tie brand is already sweeping threw the cities of America. I had the benefit of chatting with him via phone and he was able to fill me in on some of the things he has coming in the future along with some other unique things that you all will soon bare witness to. So read on and enjoy this little Q & A session that will surely leave you inspired to dream your visions into a reality and maybe one day see yourself sitting at the top of your own empire waiting for your chance to let the world know who you are!
Editor In Chief: What made you want to venture in to doing a line of tie accessories?
J’Lamar: I have always had a strong interest in ties. When I was younger I my Grandfather wore the most colorful and amazing ties and I instantly knew some how someway I would be involved in the tie business
Editor In Chief: Was this a solo project or did you go into this with friends or family?
J’Lamar: It was a solo idea but I have the help of amazing family and friends to get it off the ground. I call My Mom and my 3 Brothers are my street team because they spread the word, My cousin Que Jackson is my Business Director and my right hand, and I have a host of other family and friends that help me in so many ways!!!
Editor In Chief: Who was the first celebrity to endorse your line?
J’Lamar: The first celebrity that was caught in a Shy Tie was Eva Marcelle and a great friend of mines Stylist Julian Lark introduced it to her.
Editor In Chief: Tell us a little about yourself and where your from.
J’Lamar: I am originally from Cleveland Ohio, I went to Notre Dame College and studied Business Management. I have an amazing mother who also was a designer and 3 awesome brothers Mikey, Larnell, and Kavelle.
Editor In Chief: Was fashion a big part of your life as a child? An what sparked your creative ideas?
J’Lamar: Yes, Fashion was a BIG part of my life. My mother was a designer so she always had us sharp! We had creased pants and cuffed shirts at all times!! This defiantly sparked my creative ideas.
Editor In Chief: Are there any companies you consider yourself competing with?
J’Lamar: I see every company as my competition. But its all friendly.
Editor In Chief: Give us a fun fact about you that no one knows!
J’Lamar: A fun fact that no on really knows about me is I have to eat a strawberry crunch bar every night before I go to bed.
Editor In Chief: Do you plan on venturing into a full clothing brand?
J’Lamar: I have a couple things in the works this year; so please stay tuned!
Editor In Chief: Who do you admire in the world o fashion these days?
J’Lamar: I really admire Ralph Lauren. I love everything he comes out with from boots to his variety of fragrances.
Editor In Chief: How did the name “ShyTie” come in to play?
J’Lamar: The name Shy Tie was just a name I was playing around with and really started to stick. When I asked my Mom if she liked it she was screaming SHY TIE SHY TIE….I knew it was a keeper
Editor In Chief: So whats a day in the life of the ShyTie owner?
J’Lamar: My day usually consist of over 25 to 30 emails and 3 to 5 business meetings and countless phone calls from different business contacts. Sometimes I get so wrapped up I forget to eat until about 6pm.
Editor In Chief: What’s your number 1 pet peeve?
J’Lamar: I am not a fan of unprofessionalism. If your brand is based on unprofessionalism than we can not be seen doing business together.
Editor In Chief: Are you a parent? If so is this something you want to pass on to your children to carry on?
J’Lamar: I am not a parent yet but I do have 2 wonderful step children, 2 wonderful God-Children, 2 nieces and 2 nephews. My brand is something I defiantly want to leave behind. I see Shy Tie being around for centuries and I see this as my legacy and it will live on forever!!!
Editor In Chief: What can the world expect from ShyTie in the months & years to come?
J’Lamar: Look out for Shy Tie Extended, Shy Tie Kids, and The J’Lamar Collection which are scheduled to be released very very soon!!!
Editor In Chief: If you could share one positive message to the world, what would it be?
J’Lamar: BE WHO GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO BE! DON’T EVER LET A PERSON CHANGE YOU; IF I HAD LET PEOPLE CHANGE ME I WOULDN’T BE LIVING MY DREAMS!!!
